About Smoothie King
Founded in 1973 by Steve Kuhnau, Smoothie King is the place for smoothies. They sell a variety of fruit-, veggie-, nut- and protein drinks in their more than 800 locations on three continents. From Coffee High Protein - Pumpkin to Banana Berry Treat, there's a smoothie for you.
History
Steve Kuhnau, the founder of Smoothie King, had chronic food allergies. The blends he created solved his suffering. In 1989, Smoothie King opened the first juice bar franchise in the United States in New Orleans, Louisiana.
In 2003, the company ventured outside of the U.S. and built on other continents. In 2012, new leadership. Wan Kim was designated to lead and continue "Steve's legacy and passion for the Smoothie King mission as a healthy alternative for all." In 2014, the logo changed - to signify the company's purpose. It is a red crown with three points.
According to the company, the "points of the crown are actually three people, representing a sense of community. To the right, the third person also extends a hand for others to join. Finally, the “i” in king pays homage to the original logo with a crown point as its dot."
Also, in 2014, the Smoothie King Center, the home arena for the New Orleans Pelicans basketball team, opened in New Orleans.
