About Publix Delivery

Publix Super Markets, Inc. was founded in 1930 by George W. Jenkins. Headquartered in Lakeland, Florida, Publix is currently the largest employee-owned private corporation in the world. Counting with an impressive 1169 stores in the country, it is also one of the largest regional grocery chains in the United States. In addition to these locations, Publix has various cooking schools, corporate offices, grocery distribution centers and manufacturing facilities.

PublixDirect

On September 24 of 2001, Publix Super Markets, Inc. took its first step towards entering the online grocery business through the creation of PublixDirect. Brandishing the “Online Shopping, Home Delivery” slogan, the company began offering direct home delivery of groceries in the Miami, Florida area. While the service managed to turn some heads and obtain good reviews, Publix found that the demand for online grocery shopping in the area did not justify the investment. As a result, they closed PublixDirect on August 23 of 2003.

Publix Curbside

The second attempt by Publix to enter the e-commerce business came in 2010 with the creation of Publix Curbside. Originally, this service was meant as a pickup service instead of a delivery service. It would give customers the opportunity of purchasing a variety of groceries online and then pick them up at selected locations. Initially, the pilot program was set up in the Atlanta area and the city of Tampa. Unfortunately, however, the program did not meet expectations and was shut down in January of 2012.

Instacart

Publix Super Markets, Inc. announced its third attempt at setting up an online grocery delivery service in July of 2016. This time, the company decided to partner with an expert online delivery service: Instacart. The new service would begin by offering online shopping and delivery services in the greater Miami area. This time, the service proved to be successful. In 2017, Publix’s delivery service was expanded, reaching the metro areas of Atlanta, Charlotte, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, Raleigh, Tampa, Jacksonville , nd Nashville. Today, Publix’s delivery service is a thriving endeavor, and there are plans to continue expanding its service until it covers all the areas where a Publix store exists.
